Catnip (Nepeta cataria) is a helpful ally to the nervous and digestive system, and has been used by humans for at least 2,000 years. It helps to move gas out of the gut, making it a great herb for those who suffer from heartburn, and can be combined with other nervine and sleep assisting herbs like chamomile and passionflower as a sleep aid. It's considered both warming (for the digestive system), and cooling (for the nervous system), as other mint family herbs are! Great as a tea herb, steeped for 20 mins. Combined with california poppy + chamomile for a superb medicine for kids- can be made into calming candies or tinctured in glycerine. Be sure to study up on dosage for littles!
