Valerian Root (Valeriana officinalis)

At first glance this beautiful plant with highly aromatic pink buds that attract butterflies and ants is seemingly gentle. However, the medicine of Valerian lives in its roots and can be a powerful ally for anxiety and insomnia. They are indicated for those who have lengthy insomnia, taking a long time to fall asleep due to worries and circular thinking. As a sleep aid they can be taken right before bed as well as during the night for folks that experience abrupt wake-ups. A commonly used sedative, Valerian is effective in relaxing the skeletal muscular system and offering pain relief for both acute and chronic situations. This tension relieving quality offers a pleasant warming effect that reduces spasms and allows blood to flow more easily, making them a good support for stimulating menses. *

Roots are dried in their prime, in the fall when the plants energy is descending back to the Earth. We dry at low temperatures over a long period of time in our converted shipping container used for food grade activities only. These roots are personally escorted down to Table Rock Tea Company in SC, where they have been milled to 3/8"-1/4".
